Devoted Vessels

Ceramic art exploring humour, companionship, and the emotional presence of objects.

Nummia origins

There’s a kind of imagination I’ve carried since childhood - a quiet instinct to give presence to the objects around me.

The first Nummia began as a simple vessel and, somewhere in the making, a face appeared. A new being, naturally in need of a name.

And so the devotion began ♥️

The founding five

Nummias today

one of a kind

A slightly motley crew, the Founding Five were the first Nummias to take shape in the studio - the moment clay, face and personality settled into form.

They still live here in the studio.

Nummias have opinions and are mildly dramatic. Some look like they’ve just overheard gossip, others look like they are the gossip.

All of them are devoted vessels, quietly sharing space with you - bringing joy and steady companionship.

No two Nummias are ever the same. Each is formed one at a time, without moulds or casting.

Every Nummia arrives with its own Identity Passport (NIP), including an authentication number, Polaroid portrait, and a note on what it loves - and doesn’t.

Each Nummia is a one-of-a-kind ceramic sculpture created in my Derbyshire studio.

Nummias are released in small batches and often find homes quickly.

Portrait of ceramic artist Kerrie Illsley in studio

Hello, and thank you for stopping by

I'm Kerrie, a ceramic artist with a deep interest in childhood, kinship, and the quiet ways we carry memory.

My work explores how personal and inherited moments layer over time - how they stay with us, shift, and resurface. I reflect on ideas of nostalgia and preservation, capturing meaningful moments in ceramic form.
